Indian Wars-Era M1874 McKeever Cartridge Box – New Jersey Militia
-
Indian Wars-era M1874 McKeever cartridge box, issued to the New Jersey state militia. Designed in 1874 by First Lieutenant Samuel McKeever, this black leather box was used by the U.S. Army and state militias until around 1910. It holds 20 rounds of .45-70 government cartridges in two rows, with an interior canvas loop system that tilts cartridges forward for easy access. This example features an oval “NJ” plate on the front flap, identifying it as issued to New Jersey militia forces.
