Vintage Bowers Sure Fire trench lighter, manufactured in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Produced from the late 1930s through the 1950s, it features a slide-sleeve design that acts as a wind guard. Although often labeled as World War I trench lighters, these lighters actually saw use during World War II through private purchase by soldiers. The design was originally patented in Austria in the mid-1920s, with Bowers producing American variations widely used during the WWII era.
