WW2 Japanese silk propellant charge powder bag for Type 94 37mm Cannon “九四式三七砲”

This original Japanese silk powder bag for the Type 94 37mm Cannon (“九四式三七砲”), used by the Imperial Japanese Army during the second World War,  was designed to hold the propellant charge for the 37mm ammunition fired by the Type 94 anti-tank gun, a light and mobile artillery piece widely used throughout the war.

Constructed from a very lightweight silk fabric, the bag was intended to combust almost completely upon firing, helping reduce residue inside the gun’s breech and improving loading efficiency. Surviving examples are increasingly scarce due to their fragile material.
