U.S. Navy Sweetheart Pin Anchor
-
This is a WWII U.S. Navy “sweetheart pin” featuring a sterling silver anchor with “USN” across the center. The front is decorated with rhinestones throughout the anchor and top bar with stones missing, one at the very center and the other only a couple over to the right from that one. The reverse of the pin retains its original pin-back setup and is marked “STERLING.”
Sweetheart pins like this were popular during World War II and were worn by wives, girlfriends, mothers, and family members of servicemen. They were sold in jewelry stores, at military base exchanges, and in towns near training stations and ports. Navy examples often used anchors and “USN”. These pieces were both patriotic keepsakes and personal reminders of loved ones serving during the war.
